Local working hard for COTR Avs
Having played both club and high school volleyball previously, Serena Petrushevsky is now in her first year as ‘left side’ for College of the Rockies’ Women’s Avalanche.
College of the Rockies was an easy choice when Petrushevsky was looking to start her post-secondary education. “Having access to play volleyball and attend college all in my hometown was great for me,” she said.
Petrushevsky is currently enrolled in the University Studies program at College of the Rockies with a goal of eventually earning a Bachelor degree in Geology.
Agata Bendkowska, coach of the Women’s Avalanche team, is happy to have her onboard. “Serena works hard in the classroom and is a smart individual. As a less experienced volleyball player she works very hard to improve and be better each day. She’s an independent yet team-oriented individual which is a nice blend for our team,” she remarked.
Petrushevsky is enjoying her time with the Avalanche. “My favourite experience so far was making ugly Christmas sweaters with some of the girls for our team Christmas party and then going out to karaoke for the night,” she added.
