Nitros’ Davies named KIJHL September Star

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its Stars of the Month for September.

Forward – Luke Davies – Kimberley Dynamiters

Luke Davies

Davies, a Calgary product, led the Dynamiters in points last season as a rookie with 56. In September, Davies had four goals and six assists in four games and was plus-8. That helped them open the season at 3-1. Davies assisted on the winning goal in their 4-3 victory against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks. He then scored the winner against the Osoyoos Coyotes in a 7-1 final. Davies had multi-point games in all four, including four points against Osoyoos. He’s currently third in the KIJHL with five goals and 12 points in five games.

Defenceman – Garrett Janzen – Grand Forks Border Bruins

The rookie from Rosemary, Alta., is making his presence known for the Border Bruins after posting two goals and eight points in three games. He was plus-6 while playing an average of 25:27 a game. Janzen helped the Border Bruins go 3-0 in September. He collected points in the first two games and assisted on the game-winner against the Castlegar Rebels. He’s currently second among all KIJHL defencemen with two goals and eight points in five games.

Goalie – Michael Makowsky – Kelowna Chiefs

The Okotoks, Alta., product is a factor why the Chiefs opened their season undefeated in regulation. In three games, Makowsky has two wins as he saved 90 of 96 shots for a .938 save percentage and a 1.96 goals against average. Makowsky won the opening game of the season against the Princeton Posse (3-1) with a 30-save performance. His other victory came against the Revelstoke Grizzlies, last season’s Okanagan Conference champions, stopping 34 of 36 shots in a 4-2 win.

Rookie – Connor Smith – Beaver Valley Nitehawks

The rookie from Turner Valley, Alta., has had an excellent start to his KIJHL career with a goal and eight points in four games to help the Nitehawks earn two wins. He was also plus-6. The 5-9, 175-pound forward had three multi-point games, including a three assist performance in a 6-4 loss to the Spokane Braves. Smith is second on the Nitehawks with two goals and nine points in six games.
