Section of Rails to Trails to be closed for construction early next week

A short section of the NorthStar Rails to Trails will be closed during the daytime because of construction work between Monday, Sept. 12 and Tuesday, Sept. 13.

The section of trail between Shadow Mountain and the bridge crossing the St. Mary River will be closed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. The trail will reopen each day to user traffic after 4 p.m.

Tri-Kon will be installing a number of large concrete blocks in one potential hazard area along the trail over those two days, according to a City of Cranbrook press release.  The trail was closed due to similar construction disruption back in July for three days.

Due to safety concerns, the public is prohibited from using that portion of the trail for the duration of the closure each day.

“We are aware of a number of individuals who use the trail to commute to work each day,” said Chris Zettel, Corporate Communications Officer with the City of Cranbrook. “Our intent is to accommodate our commuting public. The rest of the trail will be unaffected by this closure.”

Signs will be posted in several locations of the trail in each direction advising the public of the trail disruption.
