Sports Day introduces kids to skating

All it takes is a pair of skates!

With a brand new skating season upon us, the Cranbrook Skating Club us pleased to participate in this year’s ‘Sports Day’ by opening up their CanSkate program tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 27 to all children interested in learning to skate.

The theme of the session is ‘All it takes is a pair of skates’ and will take place at the Memorial Arena from 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Note that helmets are mandatory.

CanSkate is Canada’s only certified ‘learn-to-skate’ program and is designed for beginners of all ages and taught by NCCP certified professional coaches. CanSkate places emphasis on teaching children how to skate one step at a time. Lessons are taught in a group format and children are able to progress at their own rate and actively in engage in sessions where coaches use teaching aids, visuals, music and a wide variety of activities that creates not only a fun environment but also one that promotes skill development.

The focus is on fun, participation and basic skill development. Participants earn badges as skills are mastered.

Once a skater has progressed past basic skill development, there are many options to continue their participation with Skate Canada Programs, including CanPowerSkate, STARSkate and CompetitiveSkate. These programs cater to the unique interests and goals of the participants.
