Cranbrook: your Christmas shopping getaway

You don’t need to go to the ‘big city’ for a fun night or weekend Christmas shopping getaway.

Cranbrook is perfectly situated as a getaway for folks looking to do some Christmas shopping, relaxing and maybe throw in a little night life, entertainment or sports to round out the experience.

Cranbrook’s many accommodation providers are conveniently located to the city’s main shopping, dining and entertainment areas.

KeyCityAmong the entertainment options available in Cranbrook are the Key City Theatre, a comfortable venue without a bad seat that presents a musicial and theatrical cornucopia throughout the year.

Western Financial Place is becoming a go-to venue for many bigger name acts rolling through the region. In the past couple of years acts such as ZZ Top, Bob Dylan, Kenny Rogers, Alice Cooper and Larry the Cable Guy, to name a few, have entertained thousands at the Western Financial Place.

The largest city in the Kootenays, Cranbrook also features all ‘regular’ entertainment options, from big screen movies to bars with live music to art galleries, heritagte attractions to bowling, curling, skating and any number of other fun outdoor activities to round-out your shop and stay getaway, or provide diversions for kids and dads.

Besides, the Canadian dollar continues to sag against the US dollar, so where are the savings combined with gas and other expenses if you head south to shop?

Some tips for you to consider if you are new to Cranbrook and want to cover all the main shopping areas

  • Cranbrook XmashopCranbrook’s downtown: Baker Street and adjoining thoroughfares make for a beautiful outdoor mall experience, with shops and businesses you would expect in a city of Cranbrook’s size. Be sure to check out Baker Mall at the east end of Baker Street, too.
  • Highway strip: The long Highway 3/95 drive through Cranbrook literally screams ‘commerce’ and the variety of shops and businesses available range from box stores (on the eastern side of town) to specialty shops and services of all variety.
  • Industrial Park: Cranbrook has an extensive industrial park, located on the north side of the CP Rail tracks, with a great variety of services and stores on hand.
  • Tamarack Centre: The biggest mall between Lethbridge and Penticton, Tamarack Centre has about 40 stores, restaurants and service providers in one location. And don’t forget to catch Santa!
  • Victoria Avenue: Turn at the Husky, across from Tamarack Centre, to access the businesses along Victoria Avenue, including the Save-on-Foods mall.
