Cranbrook wowed by aerial show
I actually spit a healthy face of slobber as I howled “whooo hooo!” when the USAF F-16 thundered overhead.
It’s ferocious turbofans blasted off the Rockies, intermittently basking in the evening sun and wrapped in a cloak of semi-angry clouds. Just like the large, scattered crowd, who donned and doffed layers in concert with ole sol.
The last time I accidentally spit or even woofed uncontrollably like a baboon being relieved of a meal, was when Roger Madson welcomed the new millennium with two massive explosions in the middle of Lake Windermere. Like the F-16’s rocket-like thrust, the blast from the somewhat failed fireworks display slapped my chest with an invisible open fist.
“Whooo hooo!”
About 7,000 amazed onlookers took in the second Fightermeet Air Show at Cranbrook’s Rockies International Airport July 20, and if I can speak for them – it was an eye popping, jaw dropping and ear roasting spectacle.
No offence to all the pilots who flew fascinating and timeless machines, with awesome skill and daring, but the bookend blasts to the show were the dazzling and thrilling Snowbirds and the high-powered wonder of the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
The Snowbirds, an elite aerobatics team made up of Canada’s finest Armed Forces pilots, are dedicating their 41st year to ‘Celebrating Our Canadian Heroes.’
As words cannot do justice to such a visually incredible show – I’d like to present a wee gallery of images from the afternoon/evening event.
And to the organizers and volunteers – well done.
