Flying mouse?

By Larry Halverson/Friends of Kootenay

LHFiery Skipper2This male Fiery Skipper is only about 2.5 cm long. Pictured here with it’s long thin ‘tongue’ feeding on a sunflower. It’s big eyes and the position of the forewings made it looked like a little mouse with wings. Skippers hold their wings in triangle shape. The forewings are held upright, and the hind wings are folded flat. This is thought to help them better absorb the sun’s rays.
