Free transportation means good times made easier

The Peak to Platzl Downtown Shuttle is a free transportation service between the Kimberley Alpine Resort base area, on-mountain accommodations and the downtown shops, pubs and restaurants.

Beginning Sunday, December 20, the Shuttle operates every day except statutory holidays. The last day of service will be Saturday, March 26.

The shuttle is jointly funded by the participating businesses, the City of Kimberley, Tourism Kimberley, Kimberley Alpine Resort and the Province of BC through the Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI).

The province is investing $10.5 million through the RMI program for tourism infrastructure and amenities in 14 resort communities. The RMI program helps resort municipalities to increase the number of visitors and their length of stay, broaden resort activities to expand the length of the tourist season, increase employment, and to diversify the local tax base.

Mayor Don McCormick is enthusiastic about the service. “Marketing will get people here but it’s the experience that gets them to return and bring their friends,” he said.

“The shuttle is an important link between the Kimberley Alpine Resort and downtown Kimberley. It makes it easier for visitors to go back and forth and provides them with a more enjoyable tourism experience. Through the RMI program the province is pleased to support this service which benefits tourism in the region,” stated Shirley Bond, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour.
