Griz Days Parade a rolling riot
Riot in the fun sense; not in the Ferguson, Missouri sense.
You never know what kind of conditions Mother Nature and Old Man Winter will throw at the annual Griz Days celebrations in Fernie. In recent years there has been cold rain, fat snow, bone-chilling cold and beautiful, crisp, clear amazing winter wonder.
Luckily, Fernie and area was blessed with beautiful, crisp, clear amazing winter wonder Feb. 27 to March 1 during Griz Days 2015.
The annual parade was once again a high-spirited and colourful affair, with hundreds turning out to watch floats and parading locals saunter down main street.
The following are winners of the Parade, Baby Crawl and Extreme Griz.
Parade
1st place: F.I.R.E; 2nd place: Avalanche City Roller Derby ; 3rd place: Fernie Home Hardware Building Centre.
Baby Crawl
1st place: Jolene Schafer – Parents – Dennis & Ula Schafer; 2nd place: Madelyn Flegel – Erin Flegel ; 3rd place: Jackson Roy – Parents – Nicky & Jessie Roy.
Extreme Griz
Men – Jason Dubray ; Women – Hannah Sullivan.
Organizers extend a special thanks to everyone who participated in the events!
The Griz pin winner is to be drawn and announced on Friday, March 6.
