Kootenay Country Fair Sunday at Fort Steele

Fort Steele Heritage Town is going to be one happening place on Sunday, Sept. 11 when the 34th annual Kootenay Country Fair takes over a chunk of the 25-acre site.

The fair is always a grand and colour time, with Fort Steele staff and volunteers dressed in 1890s duds, mingling around with the several thousand visitors who take part in the day-long festivities.

If you haven’t been to the Kootenay Country Fair, you can expect a large array of farmers’ market-like vendors, educational and entertaining exhibits, demonstrations, artists at work, live music and much more.

A family event, there’s lots for the kids to see and do, too. From face painting to wagon and steam train rides to games and a petting zoo, to lots of tasty treats to sample, the fair has something for everyone.

Be prepared for a bit of walk if you arrive later in the day, as Fort Steele’s already spacious parking lot expands to include the highway-side field beside it. Also, bring a hat, sunscreen and your shades as the weather man says it is going to be nothing but sunny with a high expected of 31C.
