May in the East Kootenay

Life bursts forth in the East Kootenay in May.

The beautiful balance of light and rain brings greens of many shades and the birds return with their song and hustle and bustle.

This month’s collection of photos is substantially improved with the addition of work from two local photographers – Julie Brannigan and Linda Botterill. Our thanks to them for their gorgeous additions.

Our lead image of a hummingbird is by Linda.

Julie provided some info on her images (image slugs begin with ‘JB’), which are located between ‘Idlewild May 1’ and ‘Joseph down Idlewild.’

The first: Need to beat the heat?  Build your own backyard slip and slide like Erin and Sarah!

The next: Erin Brannigan keeps an eye on a pine siskin that had a bad encounter with a window.  The bird quickly came back to its senses and flew off.

The next two are: Saskatoon bushes in bloom above the St. Mary’s; and can you spot the Shadow Bear near Mount Fisher?  Hint – it’s upside down.

The final two were captured during an evening among the balsamroots at the Wycliffe Nature Conservancy.

The remaining images in this month’s collection, capturing life and time going by in our beautiful region, are from: Cranbrook and area; ?aqam; Fernie and area; Wardner area; Sparwood area.
