What’s Up – Canadian Violet
By Larry Halverson/Friends of Kootenay
The Canadian Violet is one of 13 species of violets found in Kootenay National Park.
Botanist Linda Kershaw wrote this interesting note about violets: “each seed has an oily part that ants find irresistible. The ants carry the seed back to their nest, eat the oily bits and discard the rest, thereby planting new violets.”
