Unhappy with Cranbrook’s sidewalk clearing

Well it just snowed again and it reminded me that our town council has once again taken the easy way out and decided to avoid controversy and conflict. We will leave our sidewalks covered in snow and ice and keep the frail and elderly and not so lucky people indoors for the rest of the winter. Sidewalk snow clearance is unenforceable, really?

Cranbrook has just taken another step that shows it isn’t a people city and isn’t ready to grow up into a major metropolis or business centre.  A town has to have balance, not only tax breaks for jobs and new construction and real estate development. A city has to be a decent place to live, a safe place, it has to be a place where even the people who cannot afford a car can get around. Surely some of the elected representatives could have come up with an idea as to how we can keep our sidewalks snow free.  There are a dozen community and volunteer organizations out there who could have initiated community work fare or social credit benefits. But It was just easier to say forget it.

Now you can’t only not drive on our infamous roads but you can’t walk on our sidewalks either.

PS. I shovel my sidewalk and the neighbours too.
