Opinion poll (election) coming soon
Letter to the Editor
In response to the ‘Dear Neighbour’ flyer by Higgins/Dettling a few weeks ago, I immediately rushed out to vote for William because they begged me to decide immediately to rehire him. Then I was crestfallen to note the polls were still not open.
William has been hard at work fighting for the HST when we wanted it, and for Jumbo. He is for education, forestry, tourism and health care (which his opponents are all against). I also note from the flyer that he will work hard for us, regardless of what government is in power. If it’s the Liberals, who promised on February 13 to balance the budget “sometime in the future” by poisoning our underground water by digging up LNG, we certainly need someone to oppose that. Granted, the BC government has no money to spare, after coming up short again by $1.4 billion-plus in 2012, to now total $56 billion.
But perhaps there are other candidates we might look at because William sounded a little tired last month (Daily Townsman-11 January and morning radio-14 January). Apparently he no longer wanted to be bothered with local government asking for economic assistance or advice for the municipality. How exasperating!
He stated, “They should ask themselves what do we do now that we cannot do anymore?” My first thought was that perhaps his negative response to the Cranbrook City Council might have been pre-election strategy, i.e., to rally his troops by appearing to be set against them, but I’m sure he would not stoop to that, because not all of the council are, or have been, members of that dreaded group, the CLC, or even worse, the NDP. He might reconsider, because generally a candidate does well to stand ‘for’ something, rather than ‘against’ it.
William has done much good for this district and municipality, and he should be rewarded with appropriate recognition and encouraged to continue his photo ops with folks getting cheques and awards. Then he could again be successful in the forthcoming election, because, as the flyer says, “The next election will be the most critical in the region’s history.”
