Parker’s Nature

By Shawn Parker

I had never seen a wild beaver before. Then one day we were up Bull River, probably looking for elk, even a bear would do. We drove about 50k or so, then turned around and came back. As we’re driving above the dam, we both see this shape in the water.I take a peek through my camera and see it’s a beaver. I hopped out and made my way down closer the water level. She passed about 20 feet in front of me, I clicked off a few shots then she went behind trees. This shot was taken on my first photo shoot with my new 250mm lens.

On that day we saw vultures, one standing atop a tree with wings spread; eagles, one with two chicks in the nest; a whole bunch of cedar waxwings that just sat there and posed for Julie; a skunk ran alongside the truck for about 30 yards; and a lot of elk, no big bucks though. It was an amazing day, one we have yet to duplicate in the two years since this picture was taken.
