Take time to focus, it’s worth it

By Cameron Lomon, The Dr. Is In

So, I got a new camera for Christmas and took the photo above, yeah I am kind of proud of that.

This post might seem a little out there but just stay with me on this one. During the process of taking a million photos, I realized that taking and selecting photos is a lot like the way I and maybe most of us live our lives.

I have taken, no exaggeration here, almost 2,000 pictures since 7 p.m. on Christmas day, but of that plethora of pixels I have only really liked about 10 of them, well that is until I get my hands on them and clean them to show their true colour, at which point, I love them all.

Even with the picture above I wasn’t too happy with the original picture but after looking at it for a while and talking to my mum about it, the picture above was uncovered. Now you might be wondering how this relates to life at all, let me explain my observation.

We live life, as we are all aware, filled with choices, some pleasant looking and others are less then appealing. As humans we are programmed to choose or pursue the most attractive looking option we are presented with; these might come to us as to take a new job or not, to invest in a money-making opportunity, or simply what to order off the menu at lunch.

My modest proposal is this, if we just look at all of our options at face value we will only see what is marketed to us, we would merely see dollar signs and steaks, which seems awesome, but what is really going on here? This is where I propose we ‘clean up’ the options to see the true nature of things. To make that money what are you going to have to do? Will you be forced to abandon your morals and beliefs just to hear the sounds of the piggy bank filling up? Or could you stay where you are at without compromising your moral integrity and yet still make a living? This is just one quickly thrown together example, but I hope you get the idea.

We will be handed millions of options in our life time, we will not always like the options we are given or we might be blinded by the neon signs and parlor tricks of others. We must always remember that it is not just with Transformers that there is ‘more than meets the eye,’ if we just take time to actually look at a picture that seems mundane or boring and actually invest time into it, it can become the best picture we can credit ourselves with taking.
