Three facts you need to know about …
B.C. is reducing the price of generic drugs to 25 percent of the brand name come April 1, 2013, and to 20 percent as of April 1, 2014. Currently, British Columbians pay 35 per cent of the brand name price for generic drugs.
For example, current cost of a 30 day prescription of Lipitor is $55 (not including pharmacy fees). Today, the generic version costs about $19. On April 1, 2013, the generic cost will be $14, and on April 1, 2014, $11.00
B.C. Families will pay less at the till to fill their prescriptions. And government will benefit too, providing more resources to enhance patient care for seniors and families.
