Obituary for Violet Margaret Cockell “Vi”

Violet Margaret Cockell

1929 – 2016

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Violet Cockell announces her passing on Friday, December 16, 2016 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook at 87 years of age.

Violet was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on July 5, 1929. At eighteen years of age Vi married Warren. She was a professional homemaker, dedicating her life to her family and community. Her time was spent baking, gardening, with an abundance of vegetables but also beautiful flower beds. In the 1950’s they bought a farm in Bull River, residing there until 1998 at which time they sold the farm and retired in Wasa. Their door was always open for company. If you stayed for tea it was inevitable that there would be homemade cookies, tarts or squares to go with. The grandchildren and great grandchildren adored Vi (G.G. or Grandma Lama Ding Dong – their nicknames for her), and her cookie jar.

Violet is survived by her son Brian (Peggy) Cockell, son-in-law Heinz Leuenberger, grandkids Kurt (Jolene), Ian (Jessica), Jennifer (Darren), Ben, Ashley (Greg), great grandkids Taitum, Seth, Kamryn, Taylor, Corbin, Logan, Brayden, Gavin and Greysen. She was predeceased by her parents Emily and William Radomske, her husband Warren Cockell, daughter Marlene Leuenberger and her brother Lloyd “Cal” Radomske.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Vi’s life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations in honour of Vi can be sent to the: East Kootenay Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, 13 – 24th Avenue North, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 3H9.
