District to begin seal coating

The District of Elkford is preparing to begin seal coating selected roadways in town.

Seal coating is a process used to prolong the lifespan of asphalt that is not showing signs of needing replacement by adding a surface treatment of asphalt emulsion. During this process, selected cul-de-sacs will be temporarily closed to traffic and selected streets will be reduced to one lane traffic. Prior to the seal coating treatment, residents will be notified of the scheduled days for your area.

Residents who live in cul-de-sacs who would like to use their vehicle on the day of treatment will be asked to park in a designated zone outside of the seal coat area.

If residents do not wish to drive their vehicle during the scheduled closure, they may keep their vehicle in their driveway, but are reminded that driving over the seal coat area is not recommended as it may result in tar sticking to your vehicle.

The treatment is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 21 – 25, and includes Water St., Front St., Camp Rd., Union Rd., Delta Cres., Dallas Pl., Driftwood Pl., Dorita Cres., Dalton Pl., Dawson Cres., Dempsey Pl., Deerborne Dr., Darby Cres., David Cres., Dogwood Pl., Douglas Cres.

This process is weather dependant and the schedule is subject to change. If you have any questions please contact Public Works at 250-865-4025.
