Mail ballot voting and nominations update

If you plan to be travelling or away for the local general election scheduled for Saturday, November 15, and for the two advanced voting dates of Wednesday, November 5 and Wednesday, November 12, you may want to request a Mail-Ballot from the City of Kimberley Chief Election Officer.

Qualified electors may vote by mail if they:

–  Have a physical disability, illness or injury that affects their ability to vote at another voting opportunity, OR;

–  Expect to be absent from the City of Kimberley on general voting day and at the times of all advance voting opportunities.
The City of Kimberley will send out mail ballot packages commencing on or about October 27. Deadline for Mail-Ballot request is Wednesday, November 12 at 1 p.m. To be counted, your mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer no later than 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 15.

More detailed information about mail ballot voting, including access to a fillable request form, is available on the elections section of the City of Kimberley website: http://kimberley.ca/city/city-council/2014-municipal-election/voting-dates-and-locations

The official Declaration of Candidates will occur at the closed of the nomination period, this Friday, October 10 at 4 p.m.

Since Monday, Mayor Ron McRae has submitted papers for the mayoral seat, Brent Bush and Nigel Kitto for councillor, and Sandra Smaill for School District No. 6 trustee. Coun. Don McCormick announced his intention to run for mayor several months ago.

A complete list of those that have submitted their nominations can be found on the city’s web site (http://www.kimberley.ca/city/city-council/2014-municipal-election/candidates-information).

Applications are being accepted for election workers for November 15 and the advanced voting dates of November 5 and 12. Forms are available at City Hall or on the city’s web site, http://www.kimberley.ca/city/city-council/2014-municipal-election/gearing-2014-election- election-workers-sought .
