Canada Day revelers take note
Cranbrook RCMP is looking forward to another Canada Day Long Weekend in the Kootenays.
The festivities in Rotary Park in the afternoon and evening, and fireworks at night in Moir Park, will bring more foot traffic into these areas. The RCMP is asking that people slow down while driving in these areas.
“There are going to be a lot of kids out having fun at the park and they may not always be paying attention and looking for vehicles,” said Cst. Katie Forgeron, noting police will be on the lookout for impaired and distracted drivers.
Police will also charge those who decide to have a cold beverage of the alcoholic variety if they are in a public place. This carries a $230 fine.
Possible infractions could include Criminal Code Impaired Driving, Immediate Roadside Prohibitions and Vehicle Impoundments for drivers being under the influence of alcohol. Open liquor in vehicles and being drunk in public could also lead to fines under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act.
“The Cranbrook RCMP want people to enjoy themselves this weekend, but also want people to look ahead and have a safe drive home or use another means of transportation,” Forgeron said. “Cranbrook RCMP is wishing everyone a safe and happy Canada Day weekend.”
