Rainfall warning issued for East Kootenay

This is most certainly NOT what most people in the East Kootenay wish to hear, as the weekend is just beginning and because the region has been smothered in cloud and rainy weather for the past few months.

But expect plenty more rain in the next few days, warns The Weather Network, which this afternoon (June 22) has issued a rainfall warning for the East Kootenay.

“Significant rainfall for portions of the Kootenays and Columbias. This is a warning that significant rainfall is expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions,” the Weather Network stated.

The cause of the arriving extra rain is: “Moisture wrapping around a slow-moving upper low situated off the coast of the Washington state is slated to produce significant rainfall amounts to portions of the B.C. interior over the next few days. This, combined with the already high river levels, will aggravate the flooding situation in the affected areas. The rain is forecast to begin over much of the Kootenays tonight and will spread to the Columbias by Saturday morning. Up to 30 mm of accumulation can be expected especially near thunderstorms and over upslope regions before rainfall eases off later Saturday. Current model data is indicating that another 10 to 15 mm of rain is possible on Sunday over parts of the Kootenays and Columbias.”
