43rd annual Dog Show August 26-28
The Cranbrook and District Kennel Club (CDCK) is hosting the 43rd annual All Breed Championship Dog Show August 26-28 at Moir Park.
CDKC President Dick Lopaschuk appeared before City of Cranbrook council July 18 to bring awareness of the educational contributions the club makes to all canines in the city and the benefits of the annual dog show.
Between 200 and 300 exhibitors and participants are expected to take part in the show. Add spouses, friends and helpers and it makes for a busier than usual city for the final weekend of August, Lopaschuk told council.
“A dog show is like a sporting event” in regards to injecting funds into the community, he said.
“I like to see anything that brings 300 people to Cranbrook,” said Mayor Lee Pratt.
The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) sanctioned dog show will feature judges from Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and B.C., with cash prizes, numerous classes and sweepstakes and more.
Lopaschuk said about 80 to 100 breeds of dogs are expected to be on hand for the show, from the 180 breeds recognized by the CKC.
Additionally, the CDCK is hosting the All-Breed Obedience & Rally Trials Oct. 8 and 9 at the Ktunaxa Nation Building gym.
The first sanctioned CKC dog show in Cranbrook was in 1973, three years after the CDKC was inaugurated.
