Donald Sidney Carter

1950 – 2016

Don was born in Mission City, BC on August 29, 1950, the only son born to Sid and Isobel Carter. He passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

Don’s family made their home in Cranbrook in 1960 and Don attended Central School and graduated from Mt. Baker Secondary School. Don became a welder by trade, working in construction and the forest industry, retiring from Skookumchuck Pulp Mill.

Don was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 15. He accepted this diagnosis as a challenge and rather than give up, he led a very active life which always included his family and friends.

Don’s passions included travelling the world and working on vehicles. Don visited many countries including China, Indonesia, Egypt and many countries in South America and spending many winters in Cuba.

Don is survived by his sisters Elaine (Dennis) Whieldon and Diane (David) Hern, nephews Neil and Doug (Shannon) Whieldon and their children Dylan and Davis and his niece Christine Doe.

A remembrance for Don will take place on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 1:00 pm at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook (2200 – 2nd Street South).
