SD5 Board Notes

The following is a summary of School District No. 5 (SD5) School Board of Trustees’ motions carried during the October 11 board meeting in Cranbrook.

SD5Motions Carried

Advocacy

That the revised Policy 2.1 Tobacco Free District be sent to the Board of Education for approval.

Finance Operations

That the Secretary Treasurer contacts the Ministry of Education regarding Seismic Risk Assessment Funding for the East Kootenay area and bring forward to the next regular board meeting.

That the board approves, in principle, the Transportation Investment Fund initiatives to be forwarded to the Ministry of Education.

That the board approves the Secretary Treasurer to research consultants and costs to update our Long Range Facility plans.

General

That the board sends a media release re: the board’s presentation to the Select Standing Committee.

That the board writes a letter in support of the matter of the Highway 3 (pictured above) safety affecting the 110 students in the Fernie area.

That the board approves the revised Sparwood Joint Use agreement.

That the board approves the SD5 Capital Plan Overview and Bylaw.

That the board writes a letter outlining the district’s NEEDS budget to the Minister of Finance and Minister of Education, as a supplement to our budget submission.

That the board sends a follow-up submission to the Select Standing Committee on Finances and Government Services, with a cover letter and outline of the district’s Student Services NEEDS and SD5 NEEDS budget.

That the board sends a letter to the Premier, Minster of Finance, Minister of Education, copied to regular stakeholders and inclusion/equitable access advocates re: Government commitment to funding of an additional $1 million to Specialized Education Schools, with zero special education funding increases for public school districts, and follow-up with a media release.
