Obituary for Ottilia Frixel

Frixel, Ottilia (nee Rieder)

Dec 23, 1929 – Jan 23, 2017

Though not often, Mom did relate some stories of her difficult life during the war.  She married Werner and they came to Canada in 1957 in mid winter Montreal,  to start a new  life.  Both worked hard until they semi retired to Sutton, Quebec and then moved to Cranbrook, B.C. to be closer to their small family as grandchildren started to appear.  They also travelled to many far off places that they always wanted to see.

Mom was a woman of great pride.  She kept the house immaculately clean and could spot a lowly piece of lint on the living room carpet, and would not hesitate to wash down a perfectly clean kitchen floor.  And she also took great pleasure in serving awesome meals, topped with  amazing cakes and pies whose recipes were kept secret.

Probably her greatest love besides family, was her garden.  She had a particular formula for making the soil which involved a ban on motorized rototillers as the garden had to be worked by hand.  No weed killer was effective as Mom’s watchful eye and quick fingers.  She  always smiled when someone would look at her flowerbeds which were colorful from early spring to late in the fall.

Aside from complaining about general weakness, it was her blindness that surely was her worst frustration.  She passed away peacefully in her sleep and we like to believe that she was dreaming about her flowers and grand and great grandchildren.

Otti  is survived by her son Peter and his wife Joanne and their children Jeffrey ( & Kimberley with children Hannah & Haley) Alison (& Dallas with children Magnus & Micah) and Anthony.

Mom will now once again join husband, Werner, who passed away in 2012.   She will again be a part of his good nature and humor and ability to fix anything broken.  His love for German music and dressing in ‘lederhosen’ will always be remembered by all who knew him.

May they both rest in peace…together.

A Celebration of Otti’s Life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 4:30 pm at Frank’s Steak & Schnitzel House, 1617 Cranbrook St.  N., Cranbrook.
