City monitoring waterways after heavy rain

With the warm temperatures the past few days, mixed with the rainfall received Friday, the City of Cranbrook is experiencing some minor flooding Saturday morning.

Joseph Creek is running high and some low lying areas of the city, which historically see some flooding in the spring months are currently experiencing some minor flooding today. Right now flooding is limited to some yards and pathways. There are currently no reports of any homes or basements flooding.

The City of Cranbrook is asking residents to please stay away from any water bodies. Please be aware that the city may continue to see changes in creek flow over the next few days. The city is working in partnership with the Regional District of East Kootenay Flood Response team to manage the creek flows by using the dam structures further upstream.

Forecasts with Environment Canada is suggesting further rainfall Saturday with upwards of 10mm of additional rainfall by the end of the day Sunday.

The City of Cranbrook will continue to closely monitor the situation and will provide updates and additional information throughout the weekend as conditions change.
