Breathe showing tonight

Rockies Film Series is screening the movie Breathe on Thursday, December 14, at 7 p.m. at the Key City Theatre thanks to the sponsorship of Alpine Toyota.

Tickets will be available at the door, online or by calling 250-426-7006.

Rotten Tomatoes says this about Breathe: For his directorial debut, Andy Serkis brings to life the inspiring true love story between Robin and Diana Cavendish (Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy), an adventurous couple who refuse to give up in the face of a devastating disease. When Robin is struck down by polio at the age of 28, he is confined to a hospital bed and given only a few months to live. With the help of Diana’s twin brothers (Tom Hollander) and the groundbreaking ideas of inventor Teddy Hall (Hugh Bonneville), Robin and Diana dare to escape the hospital ward to seek out a full and passionate life together – raising their young son, traveling and devoting their lives to helping other polio patients.  Here is the trailer.

One of Rotary International’s initiatives is the ‘End Polio Now’ campaign. Rotary International is fighting hard to rid the world of Polio and has almost succeeded with under 20 cases reported last year.

Rockies Film Series presenting club, Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary, thought it fitting to bring in a movie (Breathe) about polio for two reasons – obviously, the entertainment value but also to bring awareness that we are close to eradicating polio so that no more children will suffer unnecessarily.

At the screening, we will be collecting donations to support our End Polio Now campaign. We appreciate any support you can provide. A collection basket will be at the front where Rotarians will also be handing out the free draw tickets.  The draw prize is two tickets to Rockies Film Series’ next film – Bombshell – The Hedy Lemarr story.

Bombshell, The Hedy Lemarr story is screening on January 4 at 7 at the Key City Theatre. Thanks to E.K. Appraisals for their sponsorship.

Here is the trailer.

Because January is usually so dark and cold, Rotary figured you might need something to do so two weeks later, so on Tuesday, January 23 they have booked The Other Side of Hope to screen. The club is still looking for a sponsor for this movie.  Watch the trailer here.

February 8 is the screening of the sixth monthly movie Lucky.  They are also looking for a sponsor for this movie if anyone is interested.

Here is the trailer.

Rockies Film Series has confirmed the following movies for its upcoming festival but hasn’t decided which order they will screen except for opening night, which is February 28.

In appreciation of your support, Rotary is hosting a Wine & Cheese before the movies.  All proceeds from this evening will go to the Coldest Night of the Year campaign in support of those without a home to keep warm.

“We are looking for one more major sponsor for the festival.  If you or your business are interested, please email us and we will send you a sponsorship package to look at,” Rotary noted.
