All clear given for RBC building
FortisBC is giving the Kimberley RBC manager and staff props for correctly handling this morning’s gas leak scare, which was a venting appliance regulator malfunction.
A technician has attended the building and the malfunction is being corrected, with no risk to public, said FortisBC Corporate Communications Advisor Tanya Laing Gahr.
“We are grateful the bank manager knew what to do,” she said, noting that when the gas was smelled (rotten eggs), the building was evacuated and a call was made right away.
Laing Gahr said there are three key steps for people to follow if they smell rotten eggs or hearing a hissing sound that could indicate leaking gas.
The first is to stop what you are doing and put down all electronic devices and stop using anything that could cause ignition and the second thing to do is to leave all doors and windows open.
“Allowing gas to vent into the atmosphere is the best thing to do,” Laing Gahr said.
The third thing to do is to immediately depart the building and call 1-800-663-9911 or 9-1-1, she said.
