Obituary for Norma “Diane” Merrick

MERRICK (MAGILL)NORMA “DIANE”

FEBRUARY 6, 1949 – MARCH 6, 2018

On the morning of Tuesday, March 6, 2018, Norma “Diane” Merrick passed away quietly at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital with her husband Brian at her side. Diane was born in Swan River, Manitoba on February 6, 1949, the first of four children born to Norman and Harriet Magill.  She was the first born of the family and was the last surviving sibling of her family.  Diane met Brian Merrick and they married on March 22, 1969.

Diane spent nine years volunteering at Pinewood Elementary School.  Her time was spent helping with the  reading program to the library and book programs.  Diane’s two grandsons attended Pinewood and she did her utmost to make the most of their time there  by helping the school out in any way she could.  She was involved with many fundraisers to benefit the school and its programs.

Diane loved to cook, bake, garden, knit and crochet. She really loved being outdoors and the time spent camping with her husband, Brian and her grandsons, Robert and Russell.  She had a very big part in the lives of her grandsons and they will be the first to tell you that she was one of their first memories … whether it be going to Walmart or just being together – she was there.  Diane’s love for family was first and foremost and she was always available for them if they needed her.  She put everyone else first before herself.  We will miss her.

Left to mourn her passing is her beloved husband of 48 years, Brian and her daughter Joyce. Also left behind are her two grandsons, Robert and Russell Grombach, their father Harry and one great grandson Xavier.  Diane was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Harriet; her brother Robby and her sisters, Margaret and Betty.

A Celebration of Diane’s Life will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11:00 am at Mark Memorial Funeral Home, 2024 Industrial Road No. 2, Cranbrook. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Diane’s memory to the BC Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Cancer Foundation, Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation.
