Five homes evacuated as grassfire fight underway

A grassfire in the Pattison Road and Wycliffe Store Road area north of Cranbrook has caused the evacuation of five homes as firefighters respond.

Pattison Road and Wycliffe Store Road are blocked to traffic due to the grassfire and BC Wildfire Service and RCMP are on scene, the Regional District of East Kootenay reported.

The public is asked to stay out of the area.

A reception centre is being set up at the Heritage Inn for residents evacuated due to the grass fire in the Wycliffe area. The reception centre will be open at 6 p.m. this evening.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
