Cranbrook RCMP Report

The following is a synopsis of calls received by Cranbrook RCMP for the week (from 6 a.m.) July 23 to 6 a.m., July 30.

Police handled 196 calls for service throughout this week.

Among the calls police handled…

One impaired driving: alcohol.

Four collisions in the city: A vehicle cut off a motorcycle, causing a minor injury; driver charge under the Motor Vehicle Act. A vehicle ran into another at a major intersection and a driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act; no injuries. A collision between a semi truck and trailer and car, with no injuries. A vehicle bumped into another during the hailstorm, no injuries and very little damage.

Two collisions outside the city: Both were debris from road or a load struck vehicles, no injury and minor damage.

22 driving complaints: Eight in the city and 14 highway/rural.

One hit and run: A parking lot hit and run; suspect identified and charges pending.

Two assaults: Including a confrontation between parties known to each other resulting in an assault charge; and hospital staff assaulted by patient.

13 Mental Health Act related calls: Five assist East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

Eight thefts.

One shoplifting.

Two thefts from auto:    A theft of license plates/ theft of cash from unlocked vehicle.

Four thefts other: Four lawn chairs taken from front yard; wallet and identification stolen at a park; unfounded theft of kayaks…landlord tenant dispute; theft of cash unfounded.

One theft of a bicycle:  An unfounded report.

One break and enter to residence: An attempted B&E, nothing stolen.

Six damage to property: Kids shooting BB at other vehicles, they were located and a slingshot was confiscated, no damage reported; drunk male smashed out glass at a local business, he was arrested and charged, released; dispute between neighbours accusing each other of damaging the other’s property; youths throwing items at residents, no damage reported; glass smashed at apartment building, suspect identified and paying for damages.

Four drug seizures: cannabis/ prescription drug.

28 false alarms and false 911 calls.
