Afternoon road check catches impaired driver

Kimberley RCMP conducted a road check on Rotary Drive this afternoon, December 13, that resulted in an impaired driver being removed from the road.

Police set up the check around 1:45 p.m. and shortly after 2 p.m. a driver was checked who showed signs of having consumed alcohol.

The officer read the breath demand, two breath samples were obtained, both a Fail. The driver was served a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

In addition, officers dealt with two vehicles for No Insurance and issued two warnings for vehicle defects.

Officer also managed to hand out “Mountie” stickers to several children who were properly buckled up, reported Sgt. Chris Newel, Kimberley RCMP Detachment commander.

“Road safety is a priority and we attended the location in response to concerns expressed by residents in the area,” he said.
