Fernie school replacement in 2021: MLA

Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka announced on social media May 6 that he’s been given a timeline by the Minister of Education as to when Isabella Dicken Elementary School in Fernie will be replaced.
“When School District No. 5 came to the finance committee in Cranbrook last summer I had heard that the priorities to replace Isabella Dicken School was number one. I spoke in favour of this replacement, as Fernie is perhaps the fastest growing community in B.C. Eight portables with at least 75 students in Grade 1 alone! I argued that Isabella Dicken needs to be replaced,” Shypitka posted.
“Today in the Legislature I pushed the Minister to give me a timeline on when this will happen. I am happy after I didn’t hear a hard timeline on my first question, that the Minister gave me a target date of 2021 on further questioning. This is great news and I give credit where credit is due,” he said, adding, “I will be looking forward and holding government to account on this timeline.”
