Applications being accepted for Youth Ambassador Program
Information Night at 7 p.m. at the Heritage Inn on Monday, November 25.
A youth leadership program with deep roots in Cranbrook is gearing up for another year as applications are now being accepted for the 2020 Sweetheart Youth Ambassador Program.
The self-development program runs for six months between January and June and is open to girls in Grades 10 and 11 attending school in Cranbrook.
“We provide training in everything from public speaking and resume writing to interview skills and budgeting,” explained coordinator Karin Penner. “We are also big on being part of the community. From rolling up our sleeves with the kids at the Children’s Festival to raising money for our charity of choice, we have a lot of fun volunteering with our youth ambassador team in the community.”
In addition to the self-development and leadership side of the training, candidates have an opportunity to become an official Youth Ambassador for the City of Cranbrook and participate in the program’s Sam Steele Days Pageant. Each year, there is a $500 scholarship awarded to the Sweetheart and Princess of Sam Steele, a $500 scholarship for Community Awareness, and a $250 talent scholarship.
“We recognize some people may not be aware of the program, or may have questions about it if their daughter is interested in applying. To help provide more detailed information we will be hosting an Information Night and we encourage potential candidates and parents to join us,” added Penner.
The Information Night will be held at 7 p.m. at the Heritage Inn on Monday, November 25.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4.
A copy of the application form and further information is available on www.samsteelesweethearts.com .
2020 will mark the program’s 55th year in Cranbrook.
