Obituary for Sidney Carter “Sid”

Sidney Carter

December 23, 1921 – September 10, 2012

Sid was born at home near Lorette, Manitoba the only child of Ben and Louise Carter.
They moved to BC in the 1930’s to farm in the Fraser Valley, where he met his future wife Isobel. Sid worked as a welder on the installation of oil and gas pipelines throughout BC and Alberta. After at 9 years of moving from place to place, Sid settled in Cranbrook with his family in 1960 and started working for Alberta Natural Gas (ANG).

Sid never lost touch with his farming roots and maintained a flourishing hobby farm. He had a mechanical mind and always rose to the challenge to fix anything, or invent a better solution. A generation ahead of his time, Sid did not believe in gender discrimination. He ensured all of his family, children and grandchildren, were familiar with mechanics and farming.

Sid and Isobel were avid travelers traversing the globe well into their retirement.

Sid was predeceased by his wife, Isobel, in 2003 and is survived by his children, Elaine (Dennis) Whieldon, Don Carter, and Diane (Dave) Hern, grandchildren, Neil (Maureen) Whieldon, Doug (Shannon) Whieldon, and Christine Doe, great grandchildren Dylan and Davis Whieldon.

A celebration of Sid’s life will occur at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
