Cranbrook Arts resumes activities February 1.

It was a difficult to decision to close for January but with this peak of Covid dipping we feel we can be safe in resuming our activities.

The shop is back open with a fresh coat of paint and artists are reminded to bring in their work. We have welcomed several new artists displaying their work.

Mike Hepher’s, ‘In This Together’ exhibit has proved very popular. It is on at the 1401 Gallery until February 20 when those of you who have purchased artwork may come and collect. The exhibit is open Fridays 12:30 -4:30 p.m., Saturdays 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Sundays 12:30 -4:30 p.m.

Beginning February 1, all of our children’s classes resume. Please check the webpage for spaces. Art After School is full for this session but Shyre still has a few spots in Teen Art masters Tuesday evenings. The Kid’s Beginner Pottery is almost full.

An extra March Adult Beginner Pottery in Clay Time Studio is being offered due to high demand. Again, please check the webpage for registration. Pottery Classes are limited to six people. We have a good selection of Open Studio times available for those potters who are experienced enough to work independently. We do ask all studio potters to take some orientation to the studio as all members have the responsibility to observe policies and protocols. Our society is mostly volunteer run and we all must do our part.

We have a wonderful slate of classes from February through to April.

February 12 is Barb Guillen’s Felted Headband workshop, a great introduction to the world of felting. April 9/10 Barb leads a weekend retreat in making a full felted garment of your choice.  That same weekend Mike Hepher is coming in from Fernie to instruct a two-day class on block printing. Both these classes are being advertised widely so early registration is recommended.

February 19, Tara Mercer is instructing a fun day workshop taking prints from a gel plate. The resulting designs will be assembled into either a journal or photo album. Tara is also leading a four-session course on the app ProCreate. Attendees will bring their own iPad and learn the basics of digital drawing and painting while following along on the white board.

We welcome Lynne Zentner February 23 who will teach a new watercolour technique with a wax finish. This three-session class is already half full so don’t dilly dally if you wish to take it.

The Fisher Peak Fibre Arts Guild welcomes beginners and those experienced in the fibre arts.  They meet in the large mezzanine, Clay Time Studio Door access on the first Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m.   A heads up to all Ceramists; Cranbrook Arts will be hosting an exhibit in September and will be inviting all area ceramists to apply. Details coming soon.

Funtastik Singers continue on Tuesday afternoons and Audrey Stetski will let us know when they feel comfortable singing again. We will post on the website.
