By Cpl. Jeff Witzke

The past two weeks, February 13 through to February 19, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 55 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.

Pedestrian struck in intersection near Columbia Valley Centre

On February 15, Columbia Valley RCMP received a call from a pedestrian who was just struck by a motor vehicle while crossing the controlled intersection located at 7th Avenue and 4th Street, Invermere. The pedestrian was not seriously injured and was able to walk to the nearby clinic where they were checked by a doctor and sent to the Invermere and District Hospital for X-rays. This matter is still under investigation and RCMP would like anyone who might have witnessed the incident to contact the local detachment.

Police satisfied there was no threat to the students or teachers at DTSS

On February 16, Columbia Valley RCMP was contacted by David Thompson Secondary School officials as they received an anonymous tip that a student was bringing a gun to the school. The student in question was already located by staff and no firearm was located. It is unknown where the information originated from. The student was spoken to by police who were satisfied there was no threat to the students or teachers.

Theft at store turns out to be a good Samaritan looking out for a friend

On February 19, Columbia Valley RCMP received a call regarding a theft at a grocery store. The complainant was in the grocery store and went to use the washroom. They left their bag of personal belongings unattended in a shopping cart and upon returning to said cart, the bag was gone and appeared to have been stolen. After reporting it to the police, the owner was contacted over social media from a good Samaritan who saw the bag unattended and assumed the owner had forgotten it and was able get the bag back to the rightful owner.
