Columbia Valley RCMP Report
This past week, July 3 to July 9, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 104 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.
Stranded dog finds way out of trouble
On Monday July 3, Columbia Valley RCMP received an iPhone SOS from the area of Cross River Canyon where a dog had fallen down a cliff and could not find its way out. Columbia Valley Search and Rescue determined they would attend to prevent further potential falls from the owners attempting to rescue the dog on their own. Just after Search and Rescue was in route the RCMP were updated that the dog managed to get out on its own and assistance was no longer required.
Boat found floating empty on lake
On Tuesday July 4, Columbia Valley RCMP was made aware of a boat floating in the middle of the lake and appeared to be unoccupied. Members utilized the RCMP police boat and located the boat which appeared to have come unattached from its mooring. The boat was towed to shore and the registered owner was notified.
Boat patrols conducted on Lake Windermere
On July 6, members of the Columbia Valley RCMP conducted boat patrols on Lake Windermere. Approximately 40 boats were checked. Six of those boats/jet skis were sent back to shore as they failed to have a spotter. The RCMP would like to remind people using paddle boards or kayakers to ensure they have the appropriate safety equipment while venturing out onto the lake.
Mountaineer killed in fall on Mt. Assiniboine
On Thursday, July 6, Columbia Valley RCMP received word of an incident on Mt. Assiniboine where sadly a person had fallen while mountaineering and had succumbed to their injuries. The RCMP are not investigating this matter.

The RCMP would like to thank the Columbia Valley Search and Rescue for their efforts over the past few weeks. Columbia Valley SAR have been dispatched to several calls to assist people in need. These volunteers give countless hours of their time to assist in a wide scope of events and should be acknowledged for all they do.
