Mount Kindersley Wildfire fight continues

Response efforts continue on the Mount Kindersley Wildfire, Parks Canada reports.

“Gusty winds late yesterday (July 10) contributed to some growth upslope to the west and to the north of the fire which is now an estimated five hectares in size.

Yesterday, two initial attack crews worked at establishing water access along the fire’s perimeter. Two helicopters supported with bucketing and transportation of suppression equipment.

“This is a higher elevation surface fire that is burning primarily in spruce and balsam forest.

There is no threat to public safety or infrastructure at this time. There are no impacts to roads,” Parks Canada said.

The fire, discovered on Sunday, July 9 at 9 p.m., is located approximately four km west of Highway 93, about 14 km northeast of Radium Hot Springs.

Visitors are reminded to practice extra caution with campfire safety and to report any wildfires, illegal campfires or suspicious smoke to Parks Canada Emergency Dispatch: 403-762-4506.
