District reviewing Leisure Centre usage

The District of Sparwood will be undertaking a facility optimization review of all the usable spaces within the Leisure Centre to determine their current and potential usage, announced Mayor David Wilks this morning (Oct. 27).
The review will include all areas at the Sparwood Leisure Centre including those spaces that are leased out by the District of Sparwood.
Mayor and council have asked for this review and staff are executing that request.
“We have heard of people taking their frustration about this review out on staff. That is completely inappropriate as staff only do what is directed by council,” Mayor Wilks noted on social media.
“In a nutshell we have run out of room at the Sparwood Leisure Centre. We have lots of requests for programs, but no room to put them. Our staff at the Sparwood Leisure Centre try their best to accommodate as many requests as possible. There is absolutely nothing they can do when there is no space left.
“We are a growing community and demands on both indoor and outdoor recreation facilities continue to grow. This report will give us an understand of what can be done with the existing buildings and what we can look forward to in the future,” Wilks outlined.
This report will come to a council Meeting likely in early December.
