Avalanche conditions high across the region
Avalanche Canada this morning reports new snow over buried weak layers in the snowpack is causing dangerous avalanche conditions for much of the province today.
The East Kootenay (Rockies and Purcells) has high avalanche ratings in the alpine and considerable in the treeline and considerable to moderate below the tree line.
“Over the weekend, we saw numerous reports of avalanche activity on these buried layers, sadly including a fatal avalanche accident in southern Alberta. In many regions, avoiding all avalanche terrain will be the best choice today,” Avalanche Canada stated.
