Columbia Valley RCMP Report

At 5 a.m. on Nov. 29, Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment members were called out to a disturbance on Subdivision Road of an intoxicated male causing damage. The male was arrested on outstanding warrant out of Cranbrook and removed from the house.

The detachment received a complaint of harassment in regards to the actions of an adult male.  The actions were sufficient enough to forward a report to Crown requesting a Peace Bond be approved and brought before the courts. A peace bond requested through Section 810 of the Criminal Code is not a criminal charge but provides for the person to be brought before the courts and conditions be placed on the person if the grounds exists as determined by the courts.

Vehicle scratched

On Nov. 29, the detachment received a complaint of a vehicle being scratched in the area of 13th Ave. and 14th St.

Invermere man arrested for impaired

At 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 29 the detachment responded to a complaint of ‘take vehicle without the owner’s consent.’ The vehicle was later located at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Kootenay # 3 Rd. The 40-year-old male driver from Invermere was determined to be impaired and a breath demand was given. The male blew over the .08 limit and was charged with impaired driving and driving over .08. The driver will be appearing in Invermere Provincial Court March 11.

Complaint of threats

At 9:20 p.m. on Dec. 1 Columbia Valley Detachment members responded to a complaint of threats. The complainant in this matter did not wish to pursue charges but was looking at options available. Victim services was suggested to speak with the victim.

Flats driver hits deer

At 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 2 Columbia Valley Detachment member attended to a complaint of a single vehicle accident on Hwy. 93/95 near Columbia Lake Road near Fairmont. A northbound 2003 VW Jetta, driven by a female from Canal Flats, hit a deer that ran out in front of the car. The car was damaged but was drive able. The driver was uninjured.

Westside slide

At 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 2, Columbia Valley Detachment member responded to another single vehicle accident when a 2002 Kia Rio was driving down an embankment from a driveway in the 7800 block of Westside Road to turn left onto Westside road (pictured above). The vehicle, due to road conditions, began to slide and went off the road to the right and overturned into a steep ditch.  The vehicle suffered roof and window damage while the female driver was able to walk away without injuries.

B&E complaint

At 6 p.m. on Dec. 2, Columbia Valley Detachment members responded to a complaint of possible break and enter to a residence on 10th Ave. A window was found to be damaged but no entry was gained.

Side-sitting Sierra uninsured

A 2002 GMC Sierra was located on its side on Athalmer Hill on Dec. 3. No plates were found on the vehicle. No one was located in the vehicle nor did it appear the vehicle was stolen. No indications that anyone was hurt. The VIN was run and determined that the insurance had expired. The vehicle was towed with instructions of no release until the driver has a chat with the police.

Movember

Without the official tally from Tim, I believe the Columbia Valley Detachment raised approximately $2,200, which is over our goal of $2,000. As promised if we did reach our goal with the help from the community and no doubt motivated by my insane commitment to dye my hair RCMP (gang colors) we surpassed our goal hence the very next day Julie with the assistance of Teresa Rogel who donated the colors,  I am sporting streaked hair. Will be there until it fades and my hair grows back. Many thanks to family, friends and our community for helping us reach our goal. And thanks for being responsible for the new look.

Fairness

An important quality a police officer must be able to master is the ability to be firm but fair. Those qualities, in my opinion, are something you don’t simply inherit nor is it at times easily taught.  It is something you learn from observing others.

Parents seem to have a great deal of influence. In my case I learned a great deal in regards to being firm but fair from my father. Everything was 50/50 with my father.  I credit Dad for instilling this in me.

An example is while growing up my three sisters had to have a meeting with Dad. I’m the oldest and the only boy in the family. My sisters had a problem, and during a serious sit down they asked him why he loved his son more than his daughters. Needless to say, Dad was quite upset and a little offended by this as it went against his belief and outlook in life. He truly needed to clear this with his daughters to ensure they had no misconception and had the facts.

He looked them straight in the eyes and explained that it’s always 50/50 with him to be fair. He explained, Marko has 50% of my love and you three girls divide the other 50%.  So, if some of you question my fairness when it comes to dealing with the public, please realize my understanding of fairness.  I hope it is still in years to come, but I think I will do well when it comes to the reading of the Will.
