Youth cyclist at fault in collision

On June 5, shortly after 10 p.m., Cranbrook RCMP responded to a report of vehicle colliding with a cyclist at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and 7th Street South.

The youth cyclist had suffered a head injury and was transported to East Kootenay Regional Hospital where they were eventually released to the care of family after a significant improvement in condition.

Police investigation revealed that the youth failed to stop for a stop sign and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.  The driver of the vehicle was fully cooperative with the investigation and there are no indications of fault at present.

Cranbrook RCMP would like to remind the public of the requirement to obey all traffic control devices regardless of the mode of transportation and utilize all available safety options to reduce the risk of injury. The initial assessment of injuries was concerning to investigators but, fortunately now the youth is well on the way to recovery.

Cranbrook RCMP would also like to express appreciation for the patience of the public who were impacted by the lengthy road closure.
