Obituary of Carol Ann HOLDER

Carol Ann HOLDER

November 4, 1951 ~ May 9, 2025 (age 73)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Carol Ann Holder on Friday, May 9, 2025. Carol was brought into the world on November 4, 1951 in Pincher Creek Alberta, the cherished second daughter of Robert (Bob) and Margaret (Peg) Ankill.

Carol was a loving wife to Patrick James Holder for 51 years and a devoted and loving mother to Jennifer (Noray) and Shaun (Justine). Carol treasured her four grandchildren, Alexander, and Ireland Vezina and Jacob and Lillian Holder. Carol had a most special bond with her older sister, Jeanne Shea (Willard). She will also be fondly remembered by Jeanne and Will’s sons, Cory (Trina) Benson, Cameron (Val) Shea, as well as, Ed (Kandi) Shea, and daughter, Becky (Nelson) Peterson and their families, and Pat’s brother, Duane (Janet) Holder and their children Jaylene (Kyle) & Cameron (Trudy) and sister, Judy (Cyril) Ozeroff and their children Kelsey & Jasmine (Hart).

Carol had great joy from her time spent with her little dogs. There were several over the years, but most recently a rescue miniature schnauzer, that her good friend, Janie, brought into her life just a couple of years ago. Daisy has been the light in both Carol and Pat’s lives as Carol struggled with cancer and heart issues over the past three years.

When Carol was five years old, the family moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, where Carol took her schooling and after graduation chose to complete her education by attending Saint Michaels School of Nursing in Lethbridge, graduating in 1972. It was while she was at nursing school that she met Pat and after graduation and their wedding, October 6th 1973, Pat and Carol moved to Pat’s hometown of Creston. From Creston, they moved to Alexis Creek, BC, where Pat began his career as a conservation officer. Carol taught home economics within the school system, as well as nursing in the emergency department of the Caribou Memorial hospital in Williams Lake. It was in Williams Lake that Jenn and Shaun were born. In 1980, Pat and Carol, with their two young children, moved to Fernie where Carol spent the majority of her nursing career. She worked at the Fernie Hospital, Tom Uphill Home, and Fernie Homemakers followed by several years, doing home care nursing in the communities after retirement from Interior Health. Carol facilitated a licensed practical nursing (LPN) course at the college of the Rockies in Fernie. She also volunteered teaching the hospice course for many years after her retirement.

Carol‘s leisure time was spent playing the piano (in previous years alongside her dad at the local seniors home), quilting and sewing and making many crafts, camping at Koocanusa, and she had an opportunity together with Pat, to travel to the UK, Spain, and France. Carol loved to spend time with her grandchildren, especially enjoying their sports & extracurricular school activities and was so very proud of their accomplishments. Many evenings were spent around the TV with the family watching hockey games.

Besides her family, who are devastated by her sudden passing, Carol has left behind many long-time friends who cherished her kindness, humour and storytelling and valued her incredible friendship.

Carol was predeceased by her parents, Bob and Peg Ankill and her in-laws, Laura and Tony Holder.

Carol left such a heartfelt impression in many lives she touched throughout her 73 years on earth. Carol is now resting in peace & love with the angels.
