Canal Flats Fire and Rescue (CFFR) was dispatched at 4:40 p.m. July 13 to a tree fort fire above the community on Kootenay River Forest Service Road.

Upon arrival, the fort was engulfed in flames along with a small surrounding area. Thanks to the actions of nearby residents in alerting the Chief and a passerby contacting 911, we were able to respond in a timely manner.

This could have been devastating for our community. With the way the winds were acting this could have taken off towards the town.
