Cyber truck taken into custody for excessive speed
Elk Valley Regional RCMP this afternoon (August 27) were on patrol in the South Country along Highway 3 near Rock Lake Road when an officer observed a blue Tesla Cyber truck traveling at a high rate of speed in the 100 km/h zone.
The officer activated his radar and observed a top speed of 151 km/h, but then locked the Cyber truck’s speed on the radar unit at 145 km/h. The male driver, a California resident, produced an active driver’s licence from his home state.
The vehicle was impounded under B.C.’s excessive speed legislation and the drive was issued an excessive speed ticket for $368. The driver was provided transport to a safe location and left on his own recognizance.
“Elk Valley Regional RCMP completes daily speed enforcement on our highways within our large detachment area, unfortunately resulting in events similar to what occurred here almost daily,” said S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Detachment commander.
“The officer completing the enforcement in this instance noted that ‘it should have been more’ of a monetary offence – given the speed, the amount of traffic on the roadway at the time and the general disregard for public safety displayed by the driver.
“Traffic is heavy on our highways most days, so Elk Valley RCMP respectfully asks drivers to slow down, and also remind them that the maximum speed limit on our highways are for ideal road and weather conditions, and not a starting point.”
