Obituary of Doreen Baker
Doreen Baker (Lowther)
January 26, 1938 – September 26, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Doreen Baker, on September 26, 2025, at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, at the age of 87 years. She was lovingly surrounded by family and friends.
Doreen always said she lived a full and happy life. Mom loved arts and crafts and was a very talented artist. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet; many enjoy the beautiful blankets she made. She was also a very accomplished seamstress and jewelry maker.
Doreen married John on July 7, 1955, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Life started out for them in Ocean Falls, B.C., and they moved to Kimberley in 1968 when the Skookumchuck pulp mill opened. Mom always enjoyed the many places she lived. This included the Great White North and all the way to the southern tip of Baja, Mexico.
A very important part of Doreen’s life was her faith; she loved her God Jehovah and shared her Bible knowledge with everyone right up to the end.
Doreen leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Gina and husband Doug McNab, her daughter Cindy and her husband Nathan Powloski, and her son Alex and wife Maegan Babich. She had many grandchildren — Jared (Michelle) Babich, Jeffrey Babich, Logan (Julie) Zwaryck, Dusten and Sarah Zwaryck, Justin, Cailen, and Brandon (Silia) Babich — and her great-grandchildren — Hollis, Sully, Bo, Nora, Elle, Demarys, Luke, Stone, Liiya, and Friya.
Doreen was predeceased by her husband John, sons-in-law Stanley and Leslie, and grandson Bennie.
A service to celebrate Doreen’s life will be held on Saturday October 25, 2025 at 2pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. 665-304th Street Kimberley, BC
