Obituary of Leona Fay Lovig
With heavy hearts the family of Leona Fay Lovig announce her passing on November 26, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born in Greencourt Alberta on December 15, 1940, to Frank and Lillie Kirbyson, Leona was the 4th of 7children. Growing up in Mayerthorpe, Alberta, Leona went on to graduate from the University of Alberta with a degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
In 1965, Leona married Adrian Elwyn Lovig and together they had two daughters, Karrie Lynne (Wayne) and Wenda Marie.
Leona and Adrian lived in the Edmonton area then relocated to Kelowna B. C. where they owned the local Texaco gas station. When Leona was offered a position in her field of studies, the family made the move and settled in the Kootenays. Living in Wycliffe for the remainder of their married years, Leona and Adrian took advantage of the beautiful location and spent many summers camping, fishing and going on drives down many back roads. At home, Leona thoroughly enjoyed baking, gardening, and taking in the warm summer days.
Following her retirement after working at the Cranbrook Regional Hospital for 28 years, Leona kept up with her baking and would often take trays of her home baked goodies to the hospital lab for the staff to enjoy.
Predeceased by Adrian, her husband of 45 years, brothers Allen, Richard (Dick) and Earl, Leona is survived by her daughters, Karrie and Wenda, grandsons Connor Mitchell and Peyton Shey, sisters Edna Meda, Karen Smyl, Ellen (Dennis) Herman, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Leona’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and doctors who cared for her over the years and ensured her last days were peaceful. A celebration of life will be held in the coming spring.
