Obituary of Robert Walker
Robert “Bob” Walker
It is with heavy hearts we announce Bob’s peaceful passing on Nov 25 at the age of 85.
Bob was born in High Prairie, Ab. where he and his brothers and close-by relatives played music for entertainment, thereby setting the stage for one of his best enjoyments in life.
Bob followed his brother to BC where he set down roots and began his family. He worked on a dam, built houses, open pit mined and eventually settled into underground mining at the Sullivan mine in Kimberley.
He served as an auxiliary police officer in Cranbrook in his younger years. He had a caring nature and a desire to help others and volunteered many hours with the Knights of Pythias & in later years, joined the Elks and had the pleasure of initiating the first female members.
He loved hiking & camping with his kids, Pat & Carol at Horseshoe Lake, exploring & soaking up the peace of the outdoors. He also became one of the St. Mary’s Lake crew, playing music around the campfire for hours. He shared his love of music generously performing at Metis events, clubs, dances, care homes & jamming with his best buddy Duncan and friends, bringing joy to gatherings big & small. He was always happy to crack a cold beer ( or a few) in good company, sharing stories and laughter with family & friends.
Bob embraced life fully after retirement, travelling to Mexico, Cuba, Florida, Nashville, New Orleans, SanFransisco, Bahamas, Alaska & other states & across Canada to Newfoundland with Dorothy. They moved to Grasmere on Edward’s Lake where they spent fun-filled summers with family, many trips to Eureka, but choosing to escape to Yuma most winters. He had so many fond memories to cherish in those golden years.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Hazel & Jack and his brother David.
He is survived by Dorothy, his loving partner of 40 years, his children, Carol (Stanley), Pat and grandchildren Curtis, Cassidy, Charlie, Andrew and Fergus. He is also survived by brothers Ken & Ronald (Mary) and several nieces & nephews who will forever hold his memory close.
Bob’s life was also enriched by his bonus family: Penny, Sandy, Garry (Michelle), Jamey ( Natalie), Nick( Megan), Casey, Skylar, Zoey, Ryan, Samantha, Nathan, Trinity, Kaitlyn, Wyatt, & Haidyn. He enjoyed being with each & every one of them.
Bob’s warmth, humour, creativity and gentle heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and the memories that he leaves behind.
He was a good man, forever loved, forever remembered.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
